The Bookery's Coffee & Tea |
It's Fair Trade
Fair Trade ensures a fair wage for coffee farmers and workers. The coffee has been certified by TransFair Canada and meets the following standards:
- The growers get $1.26 a pound, or 5 cents a pound higher than the market price, whichever is greater;
- They are primarily small businesses, family farms and worker-owned cooperatives which bring significant benefits to their workers and communities;
- They are provided with financial and technical support to help them avoid the loan sharks and 'coyote' middlemen;
- They use organic, shade grown methods, even if not certified organic; and
- The finances, practices and policies of the shippers, as members of the Fair Trade Federation, are open to the public
All of the Coffee & Tea at The Bookery is certified Fair Trade.
It's Organic
Certified Organic coffee ensures the coffee has been grown using organic methods, without pesticides, chemical fertilizers or contaminates.
The Bookery uses only Certified Organic Coffee & Tea.
It's Shade Grown
Certified Shade-Grown coffee means the coffee has been grown under forest cover, providing habitat for songbirds and other forest creatures, and preserving rainforests and ecosystems. Shade-grown coffee is also 'bird-friendly' and some are certified so.
The Bookery's Coffee is Certified Shade-Grown.

Even Our Cups Are Different |
Regular coffee cups are lined with a petroleum-based product which doesn't break down and contains toxic chemicals. Tens of millions of these cups end up in landfills across Canada every year.
The Bookery's cups contain a new, cornstarch-based lining that keeps the cup from leaking or getting soggy. The cups are biodegradeable and compostable, and they're made right here in Ontario. |
